3 young birds have survived and are close to fledging

4 eggs
4 babies July 13
3 babies  July 17
July 18

July 30, four days before calculated fledge.

Four eggs indeed hatched on July 8 and I saw four young on July 9 through July 13 but on July 17, there were only three, so I assume the little one died and was removed from the gourd by a parent.

Since then, they have rapidly feathered out and now, July 30, they are approximately 4 days away from the calculated fledge date.

As I observe them, I think one parent "wakes up" the young birds by singing and then I hear the babies chirping. Shortly after, the other parent zooms in with dragonflies or other bugs to eat. I notice that particular singing behavior more in the morning. This morning, the first flight out by a parent, occurred at 5:35 am. It was still pre-dawn and cool outside.

They are feeding actively a lot all day long now. I will not disturb them again until the young fly out next week because I do not want them to jump out of the nest prematurely.
